Youth involvement in politics and civil issues is extremely necessary. As America's population continues to grow and the American "way" continues to advance the need for youth involvement becomes more and more important. Young voters (18-25) account for half of the voting population, yet voter turnout among this age group continues to be lower than any other age bracket in the US.
How do we as American citizens encourage younger generations to not only be involved in politics but encourage them to believe that they can make a difference? First step; let them get involved! Don't hold them back from political discussions because the topics are taboo or too adult. Introduce them to real world issues and show that their understanding and view on such concepts is important. Guide them on how to be a responsible American citizen so that when they are eligible to vote and make other gratifying decisions they make those decisions correctly. Youth deserve to be educated on topics they will have a say in. Youth opinions and perspectives deserve to be heard. |
